Bentonite Clay Wash...An Alternative to Clarifying Shampoo

    The recipe:
2 tbsp Bentonite Clay (Indian Healing Clay $8 at Vitamin Shoppe)
1 tbsp coconut oil (or whatever oil your hair likes)
    1 tbsp honey
A few drops of tea tree and lavender essential oil
1/3 cup of warm aloe vera juice (may also substitute ACV)

Mix all ingredients together and try to remove as many lumps as possible. The label on the clay container says to use non-metal utensils and bowls. Transfer mix to an applicator bottle and add water so it flows easily. Start with adding half as much water as you have clay mix and adjust from there if needed.

So you use this mix like you would a shampoo or a co-wash. Use the applicator bottle to apply to roots and down the hair strand. Massage the mix into each section of your hair for a couple of minutes before rinsing.

I really enjoyed how this mix made my hair feel super clean, but not stripped. I will definitely be using this instead of a clarifying shampoo.

OK, I guess I'm gonna have to get over the messy clay and get down and do it. I keep on hearing how great this stuff is.

You will be pleasantly surprised Lisa! Your hair will feel amazing and I have noticed that it makes all of my new growth more noticeable, so I can only imagine how your hair will look after washing with Bentonite clay..I use a mixture of coconut H2O and Aloe Vera juice to mix it..the clay costs $4.95 (plus shipping and handling) for 1 pound on the Butters and Bars website and I think it costs about the same if you order from Mountain Rose Herbs.

    Hi Simply,

    I got my clay today

But I didn't get the specific oils listed. Is Rosemary oil ok?

Yes it's fine to substitute Rosemary for the Tea Tree/Lavendar.

Make life easier. Just "shampoo" with the clay and DC. It's a good idea to do DC second since the clay clarifies your hair and makes the conditioner more effective.

I just did it and I really like it. This might be something I stick too.
