      Hey Sandra

Congrats on taking a big step. I wouldn’t wear the braids longer than 3 months or your hair could lock up. I only wore mine for 6 weeks because they started looking a bit raggedy after that. lol

I washed my hair once a week using a braid shampoo I got from the beauty supply store and I shined them up with a braid sheen. I think it was the African Pride label. I didn’t condition or anything (probably should have) but I only wore than one time during my transition.

If you are going to continue to wear weave/extensions, I would give your hair a break for a few weeks in between to let your hair and scalp rest. I only wore extensions one time so I can’t really speak on continuing to wear them. Good luck to ya lady!

Lisa, it’s been 4 months since my last relaxer. I’m inspired by your videos on hair styles for transition hair. Thanks for sharing your journey. God bless.

    Hi Lisa,
My sister, Beverly who lives in St. Louis, turned me on to your site. I think it’s cool. It has been 8 months since my last perm. My hair started to thin and break off in the center. I’m trying a product (natural) to help get it back. I will keep you posted as how it’s growing. Right now it’s slow.

I’m going natural!! I’ve gone 9 weeks since my last relaxer. I am still straightening my hair. What’s a good product to apply before I apply the heat?

Very interesting. Welcome to the world of natural hair, Lisa! Good luck to you. As you know I’ve been natural for some time. I find that the warm or HOT weather is the most challenging. I have a little length left but my problem is the thinning and almost bald areas around the sides and temple. You are exactly right. The braids are nice to have during the transition but if you wear them constantly be ready to shed some hair..permanently. (can’t even pull it back in a pony tail with the missing edges) lol Keep the tips coming. As you said there are lots of products out there now for our hair to prevent the Angela Davis look if that’s not what we want. Pantene has great products for us. try pro v restoratives frizz control conditioner, after shampoo and daily use too. Thanks again and I’ll be watching ya!.

Hey – great Lisa. Join the club. Of course, I’m in the not-much-hair natural group and loving every day of it. Sometime, I think that I would like to have just a bit more hair in order to have a ‘style’ but since this weather is getting hotter every day, I’m lovin’ the way it is right now – SHORT, SHORT, SHORT. Hang in there and I know you’ll be happy that you did.
