Evolution of a Transitioner (7 Month Update)

Time is flying!  I can’t believe I have been chemical-free for 7 months.

Here’s an update, but this time I’m focusing less on my hair styles and more on the evolution of my own mindset during this natural hair transition.  Enjoy!

Oh OK. Is your hair long enough to do pin up styles? That’s a good winter protective style that requires little maintenance. But deep conditioning is what ultimately stopped my crazy breakage. I went through that too. I DC every week for almost 4 months.

Hi there! I’m am so glad that i strolled by your website/blog. I really want to transition my hair. I’ve been texturizing it for a while now.(I’m not really sure how long maybe 6 months.) My hair just gets completely relaxed.(like you said some parts more so than others) I have been thinking about doing this for a while actually I’ve tried to do it with the same bad treatment as the relaxed hair and it’s been a terrible, terrible experience. (lots and lots of breakage.) What advise can you give me for someone who is just starting and would like to still have some style.(i have very thick hair) thicker at roots and it looks like a mess if i 4 weeks into a relaxer let a lone the whole 6-8 weeks. I think my hair grows pretty fast but it’s just breaking even fast.

Well if you’re hair is breaking, you’re going to need to figure out why. If it’s the texturizing I would recommend you stop. I had the same problem and when I stopped using chemicals and started deep conditioning it really helped. Do you deep condition?

Also I wasn’t sure if you are saying you are going natural or you still want to keep relaxing/texturizing. If your hair is breaking, I would trim pass the breakage and perhaps wear some braids to give your hair a break. Just make sure they aren’t tight.

I want to stop relaxing my hair all together. I have trimmed off the damaged parts. I Haven’t really been deep conditioning like i should but I do sometimes. Right now I have it braided. It looks healthier after I was and deep conditioned it but a lot of hair came out. it’s still pretty bad just touching it or soothing it with my hand causes hair to come out. I guess it’s a working progress. I washed, deep conditioned and braided it yesterday by the way.

I am SO appreciative of your videos and site! I too have been inspired by all the ladies on youtube to go natural, but had hard time finding people who hadn’t already done the BIG CHOP. I can relate to you big time as I started my journey about 2 months ago and don’t want to cut all my relaxed ends off just yet. Just wanted to say thank you for your confidence and inspirations!
