I have been using Kinky Curly’s Come Clean shampoo (buy at Target) since I started my transition to natural hair. It’s all natural and gently removes all build-up.
My favorite quality is a little goes a long way. You can even add water to the bottle when it’s half gone to stretch the product. In other words, I can turn an 8 oz. bottle into a 12 oz. 🙂
Be careful of using too much because it can make your hair feel stripped. That’s why I like to dilute it.
Why You Need to Clarify
As naturals, we tend to use a lot of thick, rich and buttery products. Over time, they leave build-up on the hair, cause breakage and can even prevent moisture from getting in. So it’s a good idea to clarify the hair at least once a month.
Clarifying is also good if you cowash a lot (wash with conditioner). While cowashing keeps your hair from drying out, not all conditioning products thoroughly cleanse the hair.
And when you have build up, you’ll end up with residue on your tresses when you start applying different products.
What’s great about KCCC is that it’s gentle enough to use regularly and long as you don’t use too much.
How I Apply the Shampoo
I separate my hair into 4 sections, wet the section thoroughly and then apply a quarter size amount per section. Don’t underestimate how much LESS product you need when your hair is totally drenched. Stay under the water for at least 45 seconds before applying.
After rinsing, I follow up with a leave-in conditioner. Many times my choice is Knot Today — which is also another Kinky Curly product.
