Three Month Transition Length Check

I’ve been transitioning for three months and here is a progress update. I haven’t had a relaxer in 12 months and a texturizer in 3 months.

Even though I texturized for 7 months, it did not take very well so after cutting 2 more inches, the back of my hair from the ears down is mostly natural hair.

Hi, I have decided to transition to natural hair, and I need ideas, and encouragement. My last relaxer was March 4th. I started doing twist-outs and braid-outs around the end of April. I cut my own hair to length of your hair in the “two-strand twist out video” I love it, but have grown so tired of dealing with these 2 textures. Oh how I wish I could snap my fingers and have my current length but it be all natural hair.

Right now (literally) I have my hair cornrolled back and I’m wearing a half wig…(just started that Monday). I’m so closed to just big chopping, but like you, I like being able to get a ponytail on my lazy days. Any other ideas?

      Hi Kelley,

Welcome! We are about at the same place in our transition. (I’m coming up on 4 months) Trust me. I feel your pain!!

Have you tried any full wigs? I’m not usually big on full wigs. I typically prefer half wigs, but I can’t wear my half wigs anymore because they are all very straight so I’d have to use heat to straighten my edges and I’m not using heat anymore.

Anyway, I found a wig at my local beauty supply store that looks like a two strand twist out (which is my staple transitioning style with my own hair.) It’s wavy but it’s textured so it looks a lot like my own hair and blends with my natural edges better.

And even though it’s a full wig, I sort of wear it like a half wig meaning I wear a wig cap but slide it back and leave my edges showing. (I usually put something on my edges so they aren’t quite as fuzzy). So when I put the wig on you can still see my hair going back into the wig and I usually wear a headband to cover the wig line. But this particular wig doesn’t show much of the wig line anyway because the hair falls down over most of it. So the only place that shows the wig line is the very top. I actually have two of these wigs and the 2nd one is more curly like a rod set. I try to find wigs that look like how I’m wearing my hair currently.

I wish I remembered the name of the wig but I bet you can find it in the wig section of your local beauty supply store.

Wigs are great options because you get a break and you can easily switch up your styles.

My other staple style is my rod set. Which looks very similar to the outcome on the curly two strand twist video but the curls are much tighter and it lasts longer.

The other thing you can do is wear one of those scarfs with the tied knot in the back. I don’t have one but I’m going to buy one soon. I like that they don’t look bummy and that you’ve just tied your own hair in a bun. Plus you can dress them up or down.

      Hope that helps!
