A Video Tribute to My Relaxer Damage

It seems almost every transitioning YouTuber creates at least one video with a collage of pictures that illustrate damage from their relaxer days.   It’s my turn now.  Enjoy…

Hi! As a cosmetologist, I’d like to say that Lisa is on the right track with ‘Body, Mind, and Spirit’ health. Looking to natural and healthy is much smarter. Beauty starts within. In the ‘Salon World’ I found much application of products on the ‘outside’ of the hair: this isn’t true, or lasting effort. It actually causes damage in the ‘short’ and ‘long’ run. To hair and to a person’s spiritual health. As Lisa says, it is “trying to change the outside, in order to ‘fix’ the insides.” Our true freedom and happiness begins from within; and can start with a change of our thinking about things like our hair… I could go on; but I’ll stop here. Natural beauty begins inside, healthy hair begins ‘inside’. Taking oil vitamins; and supporting minerals – promotes beautiful hair, as Lisa says, ‘the hair that grows on our hair naturally.’ God doesn’t make mistakes. Nancy

Honestly I have never watched a Journey video through and through, but this I love because you went WAY back. And it took you years to decided what to do. I also love the disclaimer hehe. Thank you!

Thank you so much for the inspiring words regarding the journey of transitioning. I just started my process (without the “big chop”) and to be honest I can’t wait to see the completed transition. I have made the mistake of purchasing many hair products such as Carol’s Daughter hair milk/macadamia hold and control, Paul Mitchell’s shampoo (which I just noticed the “sodium myreth sulfate” ingredient…whatever this is), African Pride’s shea butter bouncy curls pudding ( for at home twist styles). So far my favorite would be Carol’s Daughter product line, I think I”ll be trying the whole line. But after checking out your website, I will definitely make sure to pay close attention to the hair line products that I purchase….Once again thank you so much!!!

I love your video and i have been on the rollercoaster of my hair and after about 19 years of wearing a relaxer i am ready to get off. My hair is getting worst and is thinning and not growing. I am 2 and half months post relaxer and have made the decision to transition. Your blog and video gave me the inspiration because its exciting and scary at the same time!

    Hi Lisa,
I love your video; truthful with a bit of humor! I can relate to many of the obstacles with dealing with relaxers. I have decided to take the natural hair “journey” and I’m thankful that I found your blog. You provide such helpful information!
